Our program falls under the Vermont Meals-on-Wheels Eligibility Guidelines
Participants are encouraged to attend Congregate Meals and "get out", with or without assistance, as often as their circumstances permit. It is in the interests of both the participant and the program to encourage and support participation in community life.
Congregate Meals: Serving from 11:30am - 12:15pm daily, Monday through Friday. Must be 60+ years of age. Suggested Donation: $3.00. Cost for guests under 60 years is $4.50.
Dining room serves 55 people. No reservations are required. Seating is on a first-come basis. If we have additional meals, a second seating may be available at 12:30 pm. Menu for the current month may be found by clicking on "Monthly Menu" on the Home Page. Meals are served in conjunction with the Council on Aging and provide 1/3 of your minimum daily requirement. Meals, prepared by Fitz, Vogt of Rutland, are cooked with a minimum of salt, diet desserts are available. Participants are served by volunteer waiters/waitresses. Meals-on-Wheels: Hot meals delivered daily, Monday through Friday, between 11:00am - 11:45am.
Hot meals are delivered by volunteers. Time of delivery varies as indicated. Eligible participants must be given an opportunity to make a private anonymous contribution toward the cost of the meal. Suggested donation is $3.00. Frozen meals are also available for weekend purposes.
Eligibility Requirements: A person is eligible for M.O.W. if he/she experiences "food insecurity" as described by the Urban Institute (an individual worries about getting enough to eat--when the home does not always have adequate food, when the individual cannot always afford to buy enough food, and/or cannot prepare and gain access to the food available in the household; and is eligible due to temporary or permanent incapacity or hospital discharge. Also eligible are (1) the spouse of an eligible participants, regardless of age; (2) people under 60 with a disability if they reside in senior housing where congregate meals are provided; (3) a person with a disability who resides with or is in the care of people receiving M.O.W.; (4) person with a disability who is referred by VCIL; (5) a volunteer of any age who performs duties for the operation of the meal program.
